Children’s Area: Discover, Explore, and Learn
Welcome to the Children’s Area at the Colonial Beach Historical Society & Museum! This special space was created just for young explorers who want to learn about the past in a fun and interactive way. Here, kids can discover the stories of Colonial Beach while exploring hands-on activities, games, and displays designed to spark curiosity.
The museum celebrates the rich history of Colonial Beach and the Potomac River region, sharing stories about watermen, early settlers, Native American culture, and the people who helped shape the town over time.
Become a Junior Historian
Every object in the museum tells a story. From tools used by watermen to artifacts from early residents, children can begin to understand how the past connects to the present. Archaeological discoveries in the region even show that Native Americans lived in the area more than 2,000 years ago.
Kids visiting the museum can imagine what life was like in earlier times and learn how the community grew from a small river town into the Colonial Beach we know today.
A Museum for the Whole Family
The Children’s Area helps make the museum a welcoming place for families. Parents, grandparents, and kids can explore together, ask questions, and share stories about the town and the people who lived here.
We invite all young visitors to stop by, explore the exhibits, and discover why history matters.
