The Colonial Beach Historical Society & Museum was delighted to welcome visitors during last night's 2nd Friday Art Walk, an evening that showcased the creativity, history, and community spirit that make Colonial Beach such a special place.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed viewing an impressive collection of artwork created by local high school students. The museum galleries were transformed into a vibrant celebration of young talent, featuring a variety of artistic styles and perspectives. We extend our sincere appreciation to these talented students for sharing their work with the community and helping make the event such a memorable success.
The museum also proved to be an excellent location for visitors to enjoy one of Colonial Beach's most beloved traditions—the Fireman's Parade. As parade participants made their way through town, spectators gathered to celebrate the dedication and service of volunteer firefighters while enjoying the festive atmosphere that accompanies this annual event.
The Fireman's Parade is an important part of Colonial Beach's Potomac River Festival, a tradition that dates back decades and celebrates the town's deep connection to the Potomac River. The festival began as a community celebration centered on the river's importance to local life, commerce, recreation, and heritage. Over the years, it has grown into one of Colonial Beach's signature annual events, bringing together residents and visitors for a weekend of festivities, entertainment, and community pride.
The parade serves as one of the festival's highlights, honoring volunteer fire departments from Colonial Beach and surrounding communities. Fire companies travel from across the region to participate, showcasing their apparatus and strengthening the bonds between neighboring departments and communities. The parade reflects the spirit of service, cooperation, and tradition that has long been at the heart of the Potomac River Festival.
Events like the Art Walk and Potomac River Festival demonstrate the best of Colonial Beach—a community that values its history, supports its artists, and comes together to celebrate the people and traditions that make our town unique.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the museum, supported our student artists, and joined in the festivities. We look forward to welcoming you back for future exhibits, programs, and community events.
