“Hopkinses To Operate New Beach Motel

Gordon Hopkins and his wife will operate the new 24 unit Westmoreland Motel, now under construction at Colonial Beach. This double decker motel is being constructed on the site of the old DeAtley Hotel.

It will be the first double decker motel to be built in this area. The motel will be heated and have air-conditioning for year around use. It is expected to be ready for occupancy by May 30th in time for the summer season.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hopkins, who will operate the motel, have formerly been in business at Colonial Beach, having at one time operated the DeAtley Hotel and a restaurant on the boardwalk. For the past few years they have been in Washington. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hopkins.” Westmoreland County News, March 25, 1955.


Westmoreland Motel in Colonial Beach opened for business on Thursday, July 21, 1955.
