The Riverboat on the Potomac, located in Colonial Beach, Virginia, was established in 1992 when Tom and Penny Flanagan purchased the existing "Old Reno" establishment and transformed it into a multifaceted venue offering gaming and dining options. They introduced Maryland Lottery games, including Keno, and by February 9, 1994, secured a license for off-track betting, making the Riverboat a popular destination for entertainment.
Tragically, on September 18, 2003, Hurricane Isabel destroyed the original Riverboat building. Undeterred, the Flanagans initiated reconstruction efforts, with test pilings completed in late 2004. Unfortunately, Tom Flanagan passed away before the new building's completion. The rebuilt Riverboat continued to serve as a central hub for gaming and events in the region.
In November 2017, new ownership took over, bringing enhancements such as a paved parking lot and plans for additional amenities like boat docks and an outdoor tiki deck.
Today, the Riverboat on the Potomac offers a range of gaming options, including off-track betting, Keno, and the Maryland state lottery, along with dining facilities and event spaces with panoramic views of the Potomac River.
