Board members of the Colonial Beach Historical Society & Museum had the honor to attend the 20th Annual Commemoration of the 1766 Leedstowns Resolutions, by the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society held on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The Leedstown Resolutions Debate at Ingleside Vineyards is a historical program that brings the dramatic events leading up to the American Revolution to life. The event typically recreates the spirited discussions that took place in February 1766, when Northern Neck patriots gathered near Leedstown to protest the British Stamp Act, one of the earliest organized acts of resistance in the colonies.
During the program, historians and actors including Julie Savage and Pal Duggan present a living-history style debate, portraying local patriots who argued about how to respond to British taxation and authority. These conversations ultimately produced the Leedstown Resolutions, a document that declared Virginians would resist the Stamp Act and defend colonial rights. The resolutions helped inspire similar protests throughout the colonies and are considered an important step toward the American Revolution and the later Declaration of Independence.
